USMLE Test Material Development Committees (TMDCs) are essential to the development of the USMLE exam. Every year, over 350 scientists and health professionals participate in these committees, both remotely and at our office in Philadelphia. These include medical school faculty and practicing physicians from organizations throughout the United States.
Together, along with NBME staff, they draw on their own experience and expertise to develop high-quality test items that address the topics and challenges that they encounter in their own classrooms and practice.
Benefits of Participation Include:
- CME credits for Test Materials Development Committee (TMDC) participants
- Letters of scholarly activity provided for promotion and tenure
- Annual acknowledgement in the NBME Volunteer Directory and recognition letters mailed to health system and medical school leadership of your choice
- Opportunities to grow and expand your professional network
- Opportunities to contribute to the advancement of healthcare assessment and medical education
- Access to NBME's Volunteer Community of several hundred subject matter experts
- Honorarium in acknowledgement of service
- Travel expense reimbursement, if travel is required
More information about Test Development Committee service is available here.
This application is to be considered for service on any USMLE test development committee. NBME staff use the information in your application to determine the committee that best fits your expertise and experience. Invitations to serve are extended depending on where each committee is in the annual cycle, and the balance of skills and expertise that are needed as terms change over. Applications may remain active for several years to provide opportunities for appointment as turnover of committee membership occurs, membership requirements change, and special needs arise.
Please do not hesitate to contact VolunteerServices@nbme.org if you have questions.
